Confirmation

Celebrating Confirmation with Young People

St. Michael's Parish will celebrate Confirmation with the bishop twice during the school year 2011/2012.  The scheduled celebrations are on Friday, April 20th at 7:00 p.m. for students from Sir Edgar Bauer School, the Catechetical Program and the Correspondence Program and Saturday, April 21st at 11:00 a.m. for students from St. Nicholas School.

SIR EDGAR BAUER SCHOOL (including children enrolled in the Catechetical and Correspondence Programs):  We invite students who will be in Grade Seven and Grade Eight to register.

ST. NICHOLAS SCHOOL:  We invite students who will be in Grade Eight to register.

The most important way to prepare for Confirmation is to participate regularly in the Sunday Eucharist: Saturday at 5:00 p.m., Sunday at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. (from Sept. to April)

If you do not already have a “favourite” Mass at St. Michael's, we encourage you to try them all. If other commitments make coming to Mass on the weekend impossible, plan to attend during the week: Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at 12:15 p.m., Thursday or Friday at 8:00 a.m.

If you already attend Mass regularly in another parish, we encourage you to continue to do so.  You might also consider celebrating Confirmation in that parish.  However, if you plan to celebrate with us here at St. Michael's Parish, please attend Sunday Mass here at least occasionally so that you become familiar and comfortable with this parish community.

The Confirmation Process

The immediate preparation for Confirmation consists of a number of sessions (some for parents as well), projects and a Retreat Day which are spaced out over the course of the school year.

If your child is not yet baptized and/or has not received First Communion, please contact the parish as soon as possible for information on how to proceed.

Those who are already Confirmed are encouraged to join their classmates in the preparatory activities and the Confirmation celebration when they may receive a special blessing from the Bishop.

What Next?

If you don't usually come to St. Michael's Church, try us out for a while. Come to Mass regularly. Get to know us and let us get to know you. See if this is the faith community where you belong. If you already know you want to be confirmed here, continue to join us for Eucharist regularly. Whichever your situation, watch for your invitation to participate, either through your school or through the church bulletin.   If you have further questions about Confirmation, please contact Charlie Van Alphen at 519-884-9311 or click here to email Charlie.
