Lay Presiders:

Lay Presiders preside at Morning Prayer, Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Word with Communion Services. Morning Prayer is celebrated every Monday morning at 8 am except during the months of July and August. Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Word with Communion Services are celebrated in retirement homes and nursing homes within the parish. Training is available.

Mass Coordinators:

The person should be decisive, proactive, and reliable and have a good understanding of Liturgical procedures. The Mass Coordinator prepares the church for Mass, including the altar, the vessels, the Sacramentary and Lectionary, as well as ensures that the liturgical ministry positions are filled. There is a rotational schedule.  The frequency of service will depend on the number of volunteers available. Training is provided.

Music Ministry:

Choir, Folk:  To provide music for liturgies. Must be able to sing in tune.  A weekly practice and a commitment to attend assigned services is required. Ability to play a musical instrument is desirable.

The music ministry is a very special ministry which calls individuals to share their talent and to encourage the assembly to join with willing heart and full voice. It has been said that when we sing our praise to God we ‘pray twice’. Come, share your talent and help us make a joyful noise.

Confirmation Preparation Team:

Volunteers assist the young people of the parish as they prepare for Confirmation.  Meetings are held one evening per month from September to the next spring.  In addition, students participate in an enrolment ceremony, a commitment ceremony and a one-day retreat.  Students are also asked to complete a service project and a saint’s name project.  During this period, parents also meet four times as a group.  All meetings are held in the church.

First Communion Preparation Team:

Children in Grade 2 prepare for this important sacrament through parental instruction. Parents meet twice with the team to help them guide their children in preparation for the First Communion which is received in May. The children participate in a half day retreat.

First Reconciliation Team:

The preparation team work with the parents of children in Grade 3 to help them prepare for the reception of this sacrament in the late winter or early spring.

Ministers of Communion:

Ministers of Communion assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass.  They are appointed by the pastor and mandated by the bishop to serve in the parish for a three-year term.  The ideal candidates for this ministry are adult parishioners who are properly instructed and distinguish themselves by their Christian faith and life.

Ministers of Hospitality/Ushers:

Greet parishioners, seat people when the church becomes full, assist with the elevator, guide people to Communion, collect offerings, organize offertory procession and distribute bulletin. Hospitality requires ministers who will have a genuine concern for all who enter the church doors: people ready to offer the welcome of Christ.

Ministers of the Word:

Proclaim Scripture and present commentary and the Prayers of the Faithful for liturgical celebrations, primarily Sunday Mass. Must be a baptized, practicing Catholic of high school age and older.  Public speaking skills are required. This ministry requires ongoing commitment to study and prayer with the Word of God.
