Outreach

Catholic Women’s League:

Personal and spiritual growth, friendship and fun can all be found through the Catholic Women’s League (CWL).  The largest organization of Catholic women in Canada, the CWL provides leadership development through their commitment to the Christian family and the community.  Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month in the Parish Centre after the 7:00 p.m. Mass.  All women 16 years of age and older are invited.

Friendly Visitors:

A parish outreach program to sick and shut-ins unable to attend Sunday Liturgy.  Volunteers who have been screened and received formation visit these people in an effort to help them feel connected to the parish community.

Knights of Columbus:

The Waterloo Knights of Columbus (K of C) Father Theobold Spetz Council #5135 is a group of Catholic gentlemen 18 years of age and older. They are a Catholic fraternal organization helping with community needs, supporting several charities and sponsoring events. The K of C helps build leadership skills and gain satisfaction in helping others.  Meetings are held monthly at our hall at 145 Dearborn Place in Waterloo.

Pastoral Visitors for Columbia Forest LTC:

Our concern is for the residents of this Long Term Care Facility, who due to advanced age or illness, are unable to take their rightful and accustomed place with the community at the Lord’s table. We minister by taking Communion, sharing in prayer, and by our personal visits. We visit on a regular basis and Father celebrates Mass in the facility.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:

This group provides handmade shawls for the sick. Prayer for the individual is woven into each stitch as the crafters offer the prayers of the community.

Small Faith Communities:

We meet once every two weeks at various times and places to reflect on the readings for the coming Sunday and have a short time for study of Church teachings and/or outreach.

Social Justice Committee:

The Social Justice committee informs and educates parishioners on key social justice issues.  Their work includes organizing projects that support the needs of the parish and the community, presenting the Development and Peace Fall Action and Share Lent activities, as well as networking with local and diocesan social justice groups. Meetings are usually held 5 or 6 times a year or as needed.  Each year the Social Justice Committee spearheads the Christmas Sharing project to help community charities at Christmas.

St. Vincent de Paul:

This lay organization of men and women responds to the call of helping the needy within our parish boundaries, regardless of religion.  By collecting donations, delivering useful goods and food an essential service is provided.  Volunteers maintain our pantry and make deliveries 3 times/week.  Meetings are on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Michael Room.
